INCLUSION IN PRACTICE
Inclusion in Practice Publishes a Case Study Sharing Innovative SEND Practice at the Compass Partnership of Schools
We are delighted to have collaborated with Inclusion in Practice to share a case study highlighting our pioneering approach to inclusion.
Inclusion in Practice is an initiative led by the Expert Advisory Group for Inclusion, an independent advisory group that provides expert advice to government on improving mainstream education for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The work is supported by CST, Ambition Institute and a range of leaders across the education system.
The case study demonstrates how Compass has strengthened collaboration between its mainstream and special schools by developing a tiered support model that equips staff with the expertise needed to meet increasingly complex needs. From universal training and online resources to targeted workshops and specialist guidance, the Trust’s approach ensures every school can access the right support at the right time.
The case study also highlights the important role of families, including the work of the SEND Parent‑Carer Forum, which helps shape Trust-wide decision-making and strengthens relationships between schools and communities.
With pupil outcomes significantly above national averages and strong feedback from staff and parents, the Trust’s inclusive approach is having a clear impact. Recent Ofsted reports have also recognised inclusion as a notable strength across Compass Schools.
The full case study is now available and provides valuable insight for school leaders seeking to enhance SEND provision, strengthen parental engagement, and build inclusive cultures where every child can thrive.
